May 2023 Week 5
Relax with What Is!
I started this month with the following prompt for all of us:
First, we need to get present and quiet and name “what is”….
What is going on in your life right now? Further, what will be going on in your life in the next few busy months of summer? Yoga, meditation, journaling and quiet walks are all tools we can use to connect to ourselves, which we all need to do. Once we have gotten connected to “what is” in our lives, then and only then can we try to relax with whatever that is.
Well my life for one has gotten very real! This month brought my family from our youngest son’s college graduation to losses of dear, dear friends to preparation for a 35th college reunion, planning a golf outing and showing up for an upcoming wedding and shower. While trying to be present for all of this, the undertone of sadness, loss and regret of “not enough time thoughts” brought me to a homily from Fr Mike on the Hallow app. He defined truth by 2 words: what is. He said truth is simply the reality. When I resist the reality of my life and the way it unfolds, I am not relaxing and am in complete discomfort. That is how I spent much of last weekend unfortunately. I am grateful for my toolbox of: nutrition, movement, connecting with others, yoga, prayer, meditation and journaling which is bringing me to acceptance of the unfolding of life and trusting the God I believe in. Fr Mike said - “The more our minds conform to what is the more serene we are.”
God help me to “relax with what is” and to go through the next few weeks with acceptance, love and complete presence in each moment.
