September 2023 Week 2
I rejoice in what the mirror of my relationships show me
Last week I introduced the new intention, I rejoice in what the mirror of my relationships show me, and prompted us to start at our most basic level: hopefully we all took a little time reflecting on the 1st chakra - Muladhara, the root chakra - this is the grounding chakra at the base of the spine traveling down the legs. It is our stability, stillness and security. I asked us to go back to basics - are you feeling grounded and stable in your own self? How is your relationship to yourself right now? What is the mirror of the relationship you have with yourself telling you right now? I for one got some clear insight into myself!
Now this week we get to move outward to our relationships with others and the 2nd chakra - Swadhisthana - the ability to flow and be fluid through transitions and to let go. The element of the 2nd chakra is water, so think of the ebb and flow of life, think of the ebb and flow of you and your relationships. In the physical body it is below the navel - the hips, pelvis, kidneys. (Today’s class was a direct hit on the hips, give it a try when you have the time). It is here that we learn how to let situations and people and energies ebb and flow and we honor one another. I have been very mindful of my relationships this month and what they are trying to tell me. I am coming away with the power of relationships and how blessed I am to have so many. However, I need to remember what is important and therefore who is important in my life. The quote last week from Fr Mike on Hallow keeps ringing in my head - “focus is saying yes to one thing and no to everything else.” The good news is I have an abundance of rich relationships in my life, the challenge for me is the “its enough” issue I have, or to word it in terms of the issue - its never enough lol. I want to be everywhere and say yes to everything which pulls me in multiple directions, makes me unsettled and uncomfortable. After this over the top busy summer came to a close, I used these last couple of weeks to clearly focus - to say yes to 1 thing and no to everything else. To gather, to play and also to rest alone and while doing it all to start with a grounded connection to me (Muladhara) and then a focused connection to whatever I was doing, with whoever I was doing it with.
This brings me back to the reason for my website and my hope of creating “hygge” amongst us. In a book I received from a friend on Hygge it says: “Time spent with others creates an atmosphere that is warm, relaxed, friendly, down-to-earth, close, comfortable, snug, and welcoming. In many ways, it is like a good hug, but without the physical contact. It is in this situation that you can be completely relaxed and yourself. The art of hygge is therefore also the art of expanding your comfort zone to include other people.” Do you have reference for a sense of Hygge in your life? Certain people and a particular place? Are you expanding your comfort zone? Who fills you up and gives you this “Hygge hug”? Who depletes you? Who do you show up for to “hug”? are you depleting anyone? Let this month continue to be a mirror of awareness. Find your Hygge peeps!!!!
