June 2024 Week 4

I Am Grounded

This morning in our meditation I asked everyone “What moves you toward Groundedness? Who moves you toward feeling grounded? And what moves you away from being grounded? Does anyone move you away from being grounded? Take a moment to contemplate these questions.

Another thing we spoke of was a consequence of not being grounded is we might make assumptions or make up stories in our minds which brings us to our sutra this month. As we slowly work our way through the 5 modifications of the mind we are at Sutra 1.8, the 2nd modification of the mind:
Misconception is the false knowledge that differs from reality. Misconceptions occurs when knowledge of something is not based upon its true form. Facts are wrongfully conceived. If we are not grounded our mind creates stories, scenarios that may not be true.

Can you take a another moment to scan the details of your life, could you be misconceiving something or someone? How about your internal life, how you are feeling? Could you be misconceiving something about yourself? Misjudging yourself? And if so, use the above question - what can move you back to being grounded?

And finally, one more bit about our intention, I Am Grounded, before I close out my last writing for the month….
You all know I am very honest about my struggles and my solutions and the fact that all of my spiritual practices ground me - yoga, meditation, prayer, faith in my God, time in nature and time with spiritual running buddies. Well there is one more very important piece to my groundedness and quite possibly the most important piece to my groundedness and today seems like the perfect day to share this part of me with you all. Today I am celebrating 33 years of sobriety with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous, an organization that saves my life everyday and one in which I am still very active. Since it is an anonymous program I have not shared this with everyone in my life, however I feel like with this intention and our travels together on our spiritual journey that it is important that I let you know who I am and how I live my life. I am so very grateful to be journeying with all of you, you all help me stay grounded and rooted to my truth and my solutions. Sat naam (my truth is my identity)
